Commuters facing hardships in Swabi

Published October 26, 2002

SWABI, Oct 25: As transport vehicles have been hired and taken to the Raiwand Tableeghi congregation in large numbers from district Sawabi, the commuters, especially the employees and students, are facing difficulties in reaching their departments and institutions.

In the district, no government department or educational institution has any transport facility and all of their employees and students need to go to their offices and institutions by public transport.

Abid Ali of the Government Degree College, Swabi, told Dawn that the attendance in all the classes was very thin on Thursday as most of the students could not reach the college due to non-availability of public transport.

In all bus stops and general bus-stands, the commuters were seen waiting for transport vehicles, with some of them having given up hope of travelling to their destinations.

“I wanted to go to Rawalpindi but due to non-availability of flying coaches I had given up the plan and now going back home,” said Arshad Ali.

The transporters said about 70 vehicles had been booked for the Raiwand meet, which began on Thursday and would continue till Saturday. The vehicles were expected to return by Sunday.
