PESHAWAR, Oct 25: The NWFP government has decided to take initiatives to implement the police reforms in consonance with the needs of the province.

A meeting held here on Friday with Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah in the chair, reviewed progress on the implementation of the police reforms.

The governor told the meeting that efforts should continue to strengthen the investigative wing of the police department.

He said the introduction of reforms in the police system was a big change under which the police had been made answerable to different forums about its functioning.

However, he said, there was dire need to provide the force with facilities and modern communication system.

He referred to the difficulties being faced by the field staff of the police and hoped that these would be resolved when the reforms would be implemented.
