ISLAMABAD, June 7: A man was injured when the relative of a girl opened fire after the hearing of her love marriage case on Tuesday.

Nafisa Waris, 22, tied the knot with Malik Shahzad, also 22, a few days back without the consent of her family. Her uncle Malik Sajjad Ali lodged a complaint with Golra police against Shahzad for kidnapping his niece.

The police traced Shahzad and put him behind bars. The girl was also recovered by her uncle and the magistrate gave her in his custody. On the directive of the magistrate, Malik Farrukh, the girl appeared before him on Tuesday and said she married Shahzad on her own will and wanted to go with her husband.

On this, the magistrate called personnel from Golra and Margalla police stations and directed them to provide security to the couple. As the couple came out of the courtroom, the girl's uncle allegedly opened fire injuring one of his rivals and escaped.

The injured, Raja Mohammad Naseeb, a friend of Shahzad's uncle, was shifted to Pims. Later, a constable guarding the injured was also injured when someone opened fire at him. The police later shifted the couple to Shahzad's native village in Rawat. — Staff Reporter
