RAWALPINDI, Oct 24: A big field will figure in the main event of President of Pakistan Cup Golf Championship which tees off at Rawalpindi Golf Club at 8.00am Friday.

The competitors in the main event of the all-amateurs tournament will have handicap of 15 and below with winner in net scores to be awarded President Cup and the victor in gross scores to receive Attock Bowl Trophy.

The juniors and veterans events also get underway on the opening day while that of seniors and ladies will commence Saturday — the penultimate day of the three-day championship.

As many as 15 entries have been received for the juniors event to be played over 36 holes and as many for veterans event, for age group 65 and above, included for the first time in the competition’s 57-year history and to bewrapped up over nine holes.

Some of the better-known names entered in the start-list: seasoned amateurTaimur Hassan, Dr. Aimal Zaman of Peshawar, Gulraiz Shahid of Islamabad, six-handicapper Fazal Qadir Ajmi, five-handicapper Col. Zulfiqar Rana of LahoreGymkhana, three-handicapper Adil Jahangir and six-handicapper Dr. Zahid Khan.

Lt. Col. (r) Munir Haider Malik will defend his title but Waqas Ahmed of Rawalpindi, now away in Malaysia, will miss the race for Attock Bowl.

Waqas Ahmed, alongwith Shahid Javed and Tariq Mehmood, are to represent Pakistan at the World Amateur Championship that got underway Thursday.
