ISLAMABAD, June 4: The federal government did not allocate a penny for sports in the 2011-12 budget announced here on Friday, mainly because the Sports Ministry has been devolved to the provinces in line with the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

According to the “Demands for Grants and Appropriations 2011-12” document, the Sports Ministry which was handed Rs548 million during the year 2010-11, has not been given any amount for the fiscal 2011-12.

It is pertinent to mention here that national sports federations used to get grants from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

However, there was no mentioning of any grant for the national federations in the budget documents.

Officials of the PSB were not available for comment over the development.
