SUKKUR, Oct 24: The executive committee of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam met in Jamia Madina, Jacobabad, on Thursday to discuss matters relating to the formation of a government in Sindh.

The meeting, presided over by the JUI’s provincial Amir, Maulana Abdul Samad Halejvi, also considered details about the organisational set-up.

According to a press release, the meeting finalised the names of candidates for the Senate as well as the minority seats.

The meeting also nominated the MPA-elect, Maulana Mohammad Umer Sadiq, as the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal’s parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly besides authorising Maulana Abdul Karim Abid to negotiate with other political parties in connection with the formation of the Sindh government.

The meeting also condemned the brutal murder of the Kandhkot journalist, Shahid Soomro, besides urging the government to award exemplary punishment to the culprits.

The meeting was participated by JUI leaders, including Qari Sher Afzal, Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, Maulana Abdul Qayyum Halejvi, Mohammad Hasan Langha, Dr A G Ansari, Qari Mohammad Usman and Mir Murtuza.

The newly-elected members of the provincial assembly, including Maulana Umer Sadiq, Mir Ghulam Abid Sundrani, Maulana Ehsanullah Hazarvi and Hafiz Mohammad Naeem also attended the meeting.

EDUCATION: The government is assigning top priority to promotion of education, specially the information technology, as it will help the country compete internationally, the district Nazim, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, said the other day.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the computer lab at the Government Islamia College.

The district Nazim assured the college students regarding construction of road and removal of encroachment from the college premises.

Earlier, the principal of the college, Abdul Hameed Shaikh, said that the computer lab was equipped with 45 computers costing Rs 1.3 million.

Later, the Nazim inaugurated a bridge over Patni Minor near the Roshanabad-Kandhra road.

The cost of the 70-foot long and 34-foot wide scheme is Rs 734,000.
