LONDON, June 1: The European single currency rose sharply against the dollar on Wednesday.

In late London trade, the euro climbed to $1.4433 from $1.4397 in New York late Tuesday. The dollar slumped to 80.84 yen from 81.50 yen.

In London on Wednesday, the euro changed hands at $1.4433 against $1.4397 in New York late on Tuesday, at 116.67 yen (117.33), and 1.2119 Swiss francs (1.2286).

The dollar stood at 80.84 yen (81.50) and 0.8397 Swiss francs (0.8534).

The pound was at $1.6396 (1.6446).

On the London Bullion Market, gold prices slipped to $1,534 an ounce from $1,537 late Tuesday.—AFP
