PESHAWAR, Oct 23: Postal service employees have threatened to go on a countrywide strike from Oct 27, if the government failed to accept their demands.
The workers of Pakistan Postal Service staged a protest demonstration against the termination of employees here in front of the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday. Central general secretary Haji Raza Khan led the rally, that was organized by the National Organization of Postal Employees, Pakistan.
The workers, displaying placards and banners, raised slogans against the management and demanded the removal of the director-general of post offices for his, what they described, anti-worker policies.
Later addressing the rally, the organizational general secretary, Haji Raza Khan, alleged that the director-general had dismissed some 30 employees without any reason while a large number of workers had been sent on forced retirement.
He condemned the policies of the management and demanded of the government to restore the terminated employees and stop unannounced downsizing in Pakistan postal service. He also demanded the removal of the director-general.
Haji Raza Khan warned that if their demands were not accepted, the postal service employees would launch a countrywide strike from October 27.
