KARACHI, May 27: An intelligence officer of the Iqbal Market police station was gunned down in Orangi Town on Friday, officials said. They said 37-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector Javed Iqbal was shot dead near the mobile phone market in Sector 11½.

“He was riding a motorbike near the market when he was intercepted by armed men on a motorcycle,” said Iqbal Market SHO Inspector Shaukat Tanoli.

“He was shot two bullets in the chest and he died on the spot. The attackers also fired shots into the air apparently to harass people,” he added.

He said that the deceased had been under threat for the past few months due to his professional work and had also applied for a transfer but could not get it.

“The victim was a resident of Mominabad in Orangi Town,” added the SHO.
