BADIN, May 25: Loose earth and pebbles left over from recent construction of roads in the town and persisting hot and dry weather often make air dust-laden, causing throat, eye and nose infections.

“It is an unusually dry spell which makes upper layer of the soil loose and air whips up clouds of dust containing bacteria and virus,” said Dr Saima Bhurgari, medical superintendent of Rehnma Family Health Hospital.

She said that some people with strong immunity did not accept any impact of the dust but sensitive people easily fell prey to allergic diseases like bronchitis (breath disease), asthma, rhinitis (nose disease), allergic conjunctivitis (eye disease) and others.

First the bacteria and virus in the dust develop allergies in the victim's body and then the allergies become infectious and spread from one person to another.

She said that majority of women visiting the hospital had symptoms of many allergic disorders. Hyderabad-Karachi bypass road and Shahnawaz chowk are the worst spots with regard to dust and pollution.

She said that people should wear mask as used by people in many developed countries while travelling through a city.
