ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: The son of a PPP’s MNA-elect was killed and seven other persons, including three women, were injured critically in a car-passanger wagon collision in sector F-8 here on Tuesday night, police said.

Behram Khan Niazi, the son of Dr Sher Afghan Khan Niazi, the former federal minister and the newly-elected MNA from NA-72 Mianwali, was coming from F-10 in his car (LXZ-53) when the wagon (NWFP-1985) crashed into it at Khyaban Chowk. As a result, Behram Khan, who had also contested elections for the Punjab assembly seat PP-45 and lost it, was killed on the spot. Seven passengers, including three women, travelling in the wagon, were injured critically, the police said.

“It was a horrible accident. Behram Khan’s car was badly damaged after being crashed by the wagon, while the women passengers trapped in the wagon were screaming with pain,” a police officer said.

The dead and the injured were pulled out of the wreckages of the two vehicles and shifted to the PIMS hospital. The wagon driver escaped from the scene, the police said.

Meanwhile, police found an infant lying abandoned in the bushes at sector G-9/3 on Tuesday night, police said. Some passer-by spotted the baby on hearing his screams and informed the police who took the baby into custody and shifted him to hospital, police said.

Police and doctors said efforts were being made to trace the parents of the baby.
