PESHAWAR, May 20: The Peshawar High Court on Friday granted bail to two suspected militants charged in three different cases of terrorism including blowing up of a shop and snatching of government vehicles.

A single bench comprising Justice Shahjehan Khan Yousafzai directed the two petitioners, Maulana Shahzaib and Rasheed Khan, to furnish two sureties of Rs200,000 in all the three cases.

The bench also ordered that the petitioners would remain under observation for a year. Furthermore, it was ordered that the petitioners should not leave the district without giving information to the local police.

The petitioners were charged in three cases registered at Ooch police station on Jan 15, 2009, April 16 and April 29, 2009, under section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act, 1997 read with several other sections of Pakistan Penal Code.

Advocate Malik Ajmal Khan appeared for the petitioners and contended that the prosecution could not produce even a single evidence against the petitioners. He added that neither identification parade was conducted by the police nor anything objectionable was recovered from them.

The counsel argued that the petitioners had also not recorded any confessional statements despite remaining in custody for many days.

Meanwhile, another bench comprising Justice Dost Mohammad Khan allowed bail to two suspected militants charged with blowing up a bridge at Shrengal area in Dir Upper. The incident had taken place in Aug 2009. Later, the two suspects, Mohammad Ghani and Mohammad Akber, were arrested and charged in the instant case. The police alleged that they belonged to a militant outfit.

Advocate Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik appeared for the petitioners and contended that they were falsely implicated in the case.
