SIALKOT, Oct 21: Thousands of girl students and teachers on Monday staged a protest rally at the local Government Post Graduate College for Women against the denationalization and establishment of boards of governors to run the affairs of educational institutions.

They chanted anti-government slogans, demanding immediate withdrawal of the decision. More than 8,000 girl students are on roll in the college.

The protesting students boycotted their classes and took out the agitational rally on the college premises.

Earlier, an agitational meeting of students and teachers was held at the college auditorium chaired by Prof Qamar Malik, the Gujranwala division president of the Punjab Professor and Lecturers Association (PPLA).

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Qamar Malik, Prof Miss Khalida Gillani, Prof Mrs Ghazala Saleem and dozens of girl students unanimously rejected the denationalization and the establishment of BoGs. They demanded that the government should withdraw the decision in the larger public interest.

Prof Qamar announced that the PPLA would also stage protest demonstrations in front of the Governor House and district courts, Gujranwala, on Oct 24.
