Motorcyclist killed on road

FATEHJANG, May 16: A man was killed in a road accident here on Monday.

According to the police, Tanveer Hussain was going towards Mehlo on his motorcycle when he collided with a car (ID-126) near Garhi Haso Khan and died on the spot. The local police have arrested the car driver Jameel Akhtar.—A Correspondent

Google’s advertising partner

ISLAMABAD, May 16: An online marketing professional from Islamabad, Mudassar Saeed Khan, has become Google’s first certified advertising partner in Pakistan.

Badar Khushnood, country manager of Google-Pakistan confirmed the information.

This Google Adwords Certified Partner status is awarded by Google to an individual or company which has individually passed a minimum of two Google certification exams or have an employee who has passed this exam illustrating practical expertise in managing accounts.

In addition to this, individual or company must have managed at least $10,000 advertising spend over 90 days period.

Mudassar Saeed Khan, who works for an IT firm, told Dawn: “I am very happy to achieve this status and am looking forward to help other Pakistani individuals and companies to get them recognised in this specialised area of online marketing.” — Staff Reporter

Telecommunication day

ISLAMABAD, May 16: The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is being observed on Tuesday to raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of internet and other information and communication technologies can bring to societies and economies.

This year, the day highlights the theme “Better life in rural communities with ICTs” which highlights the need to harness the full potential of ICTs for the benefit of the world’s rural population.

Pakistan has seen a stunning and remarkable growth in both the mobile subscriber base and SMS traffic during the past few years, said a study on ‘SMS traffic in Pakistan. The mobile subscriber base touched the figure of 100 million by the last quarter of 2010. And awesomely, 151.6385 billion text messages were exchanged during 2009 which estimated 1,532 SMS per subscriber in 2009.—Our Reporter

Five injured in accident

CHAKWAL, May 16: Five persons were injured in a road accident on Sunday night.

Hamid Ali Quraishi of Shikarpur district was passing through Balkasar village when his car collided with another car. As a result, Hamid, his mother, father, wife and a daughter sustained injuries. They were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital. — Correspondent

Two houses looted

CHAKWAL, May 16: Two houses were looted here on Sunday night.

Three armed men barged into the house of Mohammad Ashraf in Jinwal town and looted cash, jewellery, mobile phones and other valuables after taking the family at gunpoint.

In another incident in Bikhari Klaan village, eight bandits looted Rs700,000 cash, seven mobile phones, gold items worth two million rupees and also took away a car from the house of Sultan Mohammad. — Correspondent
