Islamic govt to be set up: Akram

SWABI, Oct 21: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s nominee for the chief minister’s slot, Mohammad Akram Khan Durrani, has said that an Islamic government will be formed in the NWFP.

“I had moved a resolution for the establishment of an Islamic government in the NWFP during the previous government. It was unanimously adopted and is still on the provincial assembly’s record,” Mr Durrani said while speaking at the Rabita programme of the Abaseen Union of Journalists on Sunday night.

In the light of that resolution, he said, the next provincial government would bring about a change in the system of the government, hoping that all the political parties would support the MMA government.

About the formation of the cabinet, he said its strength and award of the ministries would be sorted out according to the demands of the MMA leaders.

“I cannot predict myself as the next chief minister of the NWFP. The stalwarts of the MMA would decide about this slot. Who they want to nominate I will extend my cooperation to him because we were elected for a purpose (Islamic government) and to achieve this objective is our priority,” he said.

The MMA leader said that embarking on a collective struggle for achieving the NWFP’s rights and outstanding dues would be the foremost duty of the next government.

The provincial general secretary of the JUI(F), Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, said that in the best interest of the nation Kalabagh Dam should be constructed but it would be better to know the experts’ opinion about it.
