LAHORE, May 14: The country is going to experience another wave of extreme hot weather from Sunday (today) and the Meteorological Office is expecting maximum temperatures to rise up to 50 degrees C in some areas of southern parts.

The Met Office said on Saturday the wave was likely to persist in the country for around four to five days, rising the maximum temperature from five to seven degrees C in its plains.

The maximum temperature in Lahore was 42 degrees C and as per the Met Office calculations it can reach up to 47 or 48 degrees C in the next five days.

According to the latest estimates, a severe heat wave is developing over southern Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan that will also grip most parts of the country.

The day temperatures are expected to increase by five to seven degrees C in most of the plain areas. The highest day temperatures may reach up to 50 degrees C in some parts of southern Punjab, Upper Sindh and Eastern Balochistan.

In Islamabad, the mercury level may reach up to 41 degrees C during the coming few days. The temperatures of northern areas are also expected to increase during this weekend that would trigger good snow-melt in the next five to six days.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature also shot up in the northern Punjab on Saturday, which was below 40 degrees C on Friday. Every city in Punjab had over 40 degree C temperature and the Met Office said this indicated beginning of the heat spell.
