KARACHI, May 13: A judicial magistrate on Friday remanded four suspected militants in police custody till May 18 in cases pertaining to possessing illicit weapons and explosives.

The CID police claimed to have arrested the four suspects — Maaz alias Irfan, Babar Iqbal alias Babli, Habib-ur-Rehman and Habibullah — in the Pirabad area on Thursday after a shoot-out and seized arms and explosives.

The suspects were produced before a judicial magistrate (west) who remanded them in the CID police custody till May18 and directed the investigation office to produce them in court on the next hearing.

The CID alleged that the suspects were associated with the proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and planning to attack government buildings and senior officials of the law-enforcement agencies.

They were booked under Sections 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), Section 13-D of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965 and Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substance Act.

Bank heist suspects

A judicial magistrate on Friday remanded two suspected robbers in police custody in a bank heist case.

The suspects — Waseem alias Wali and Sajjad alias Gul Faraz — along with their absconding accomplices have been booked for robbing a private bank near Chamra Chowrangi of Rs3.3 million from within the remit of the Korangi Industrial Area police station on May 11.

The police produced the suspects before a judicial magistrate (east) and sought their physical remand. The court remanded the suspects in police custody for five days.

A case (FIR 472/2011) was registered under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the PPC on a complaint of the branch manager. The police arrested the suspects near a bus stop in Korangi on Thursday and claimed to have recovered Rs900,000 from their possession.

Nine profiteers fined

Two judicial magistrates on Friday fined nine shopkeepers for selling fresh milk and meat at exorbitant prices. The two magistrates — Ashfaq Mughal and Naveed Asghar Sheikh — along with the police carried out raids in the Quaidabad and Shah Latif Town areas and found them violating the official rates and imposed a fine of Rs1,000 each.
