KARACHI, Oct 20: Upcoming off-spinner Irfanuddin played havoc with Pakistan Education Board (PEB)’s batsmen on the opening day of the latest round of Kardar Trophy matches Sunday.
Irfan captured six for 41 in 17.4 overs as KESC skittled out PEB for 158 in their first innings at PCB Regional Academy Ground.
Naveed Khan was the only batsman to come to terms with Irfan’s controlled exhibition of spin bowling. He top-scored with 51 ff 65 balls before falling to Tahir Khan, who also bowls off-spin.
KESC lost some early wickets in reaching 81 for three at close of play. Opener Zahid Ghauri is batting on 51.
Iqbal Shaikh hammered a stroke-filled 108 to help Karachi Port Trust (KPT) make an imposing 291 in their first innings against Pakistan Air Force at National Stadium.
Iqbal’s 148-ball innings was spiced with 11 fours and a solitary six after KPT lost the first four wickets for just 81 runs. Fahadullah also played a good hand in making 70 (seven fours) while putting 152 for the fifth-wicket with Iqbal.
Medium-pacer Naseeruddin excelled with figures of six for 77 in 23 overs.
Navy, meanwhile, were bundled out for just 143 in their match against Sui Gas at KCCA Stadium with off-spinner Kashif Shafi claiming four for 39 and slow left-armer Mohammad Nadeem three for 23.
Mohammad Yaqoob top-scored for the sailors with an unbeaten 36.
Sui Gas looked on course for a big first innings total by replying with 103 for one in 26 overs after an opening stand of 97 between Mohammad Hafeez (53 not out) and Ali Hussain (48).
Our Sports Reporter adds from Rawalpindi: Mohammad Taj hit up a sparkling 100 to help PTV to 218 against ARL.
Sohail Tanveer restricted PTV by picking up five wickets for 58 runs while Alamgir Khan took three and Abid Akhtar snapped up two as they dismissed their rivals in 78.1 overs.
By the close of play ARL were 28 for no loss with Farrukh Sultan (10) and Abid Mahmood (15) at the crease.
Babar Naeem (119) and Adil Hanif (80) were involved in a big first wicket partnership of 170 as PTCL made 277 for three in 58 overs against a hapless Army side at Pindi Club Ground.
