Three killed in Swabi

SWABI, May 11: Three persons were killed in separate incidents, said police on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a man identified as Naik Mohammad, shot dead his father namely Sher Farzand over some domestic dispute, in Shagai village.

Wife of the deceased lodged an FIR in the Swabi police station against his son, who was only recently released from judicial lockup. Relatives said Naik Mohammad was angry with his father for not making efforts for his release from jail.

In Jamal Abad, two persons, who worked in a poultry farm, were found dead in their room. Their death was possibly caused by smoke released from a generator they had switched on in their room before going to bed. They were identified as Ayub Khan and Jan Bacha. —Correspondent

Hotel owners arrested

KOHAT, May 11: Twenty seven hotel owners were arrested and fined Rs39,800 on Wednesday for selling tikka karahai on the meatless day.

The ACO, Kohat, Naeem Sadozai, along with food officials, conducted raids at restaurants in Gulu Bera area, OTS road, old bus stand, Hangu road and police lines square, and seized meat from the deep freezers of the hotels and sent some of the owners to prison.

He expressed anger over giving unsigned chits to hand cart owners by the TMA for collecting daily rent.

Meanwhile, the syndicate of Kohat University of Science and Technology at its 12th meeting on Wednesday approved upgradation of computer operators and different study leave cases of the scholars studying abroad. VC Nasir Jammal Khattak chaired the meeting, which also set up a welfare fund for talented poor students. —Correspondent

Orphan students get cheques

PESHAWAR, May 11: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti on Wednesday distributed cheques among 84 orphan students from different districts to help them continue their studies.

The cheques were arranged by Tanzeem Lisail Walmahroom. Addressing a function held at the CM House on the occasion, Mr Hoti said the assistance to needy, helpless and deserving people was the duty of the government. Chairman of the Tanzeem Mohammad Hamayun Khan was also present.

Mr Hoti said his government had increased allocation for Tanzeem Lisail Walmahroom, launched during the previous government, from Rs400 million to Rs600 million.

He said scarcity of resources would not hinder welfare activities. He said the duration of the programme had been extended three times for six months and now it had been decided to extend the programme for another three years. —Bureau Report

Section 144

CHARSADDA, May 11: The district administration on Wednesday imposed section 144 banning supply of milk from Charsadda to other districts and import of contaminated meat, chicken and other essentials to the district from Punjab.

Through two separate notifications the DCO, Ajmal Khan, said some people were involved in exporting milk from the district causing its artificial shortage. The ban will remain effective for one month and violators will be dealt with iron hand. —Correspondent
