APP made corporation

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: President Gen Pervez Musharraf promulgated the Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation Ordinance, 2002, on Saturday.

The ordinance relates to establishment of the corporation, its headquarters, functions, management, constitution of board, terms of office of chairman and members, managing director, recruitment of officers and transfers of employees. It also covers budget, maintenance of accounts, audit, delegation of powers, indemnity, winding up of the corporation, power to make rules and regulations, repeal, savings and funds.

Under the ordinance, a board of 11 members, including the chairman, would be constituted to look after the affairs of the corporation. Secretary of the information and media development ministry will be its chairman.

The ex-officio members of the board would be: APP Corporation MD, PTV MD, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation director-general, principal information officer of Press Information Department, president of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors, financial advisor of the information ministry, chairmen of the mass communication departments of University of Karachi and Punjab University.

The government will nominate two renowned media persons from the private sector for the board.
