Cantt areas get local govts

ISLAMABAD, Oct 18: The president on Friday promulgated Cantonments Local Government (Elections) Ordinance, providing the establishment of local governments in the Cantonment areas in the country.

The term “local government” is defined as “district government, or City District Government, Zila Council, Cantonment Administration, Cantonment Board, Union Council and Union Administration.”

The Cantonment Board would be composed of Station Commander, all Nazims of Union Council in a Cantonment, vice president indirectly elected from amongst the Union Nazims of the cantonment.—Staff Reporter
