BAHAWALPUR, Oct 18: The model university ordinance is against the interest of students, parents and teachers.

This was stated by Prof Dr Rao M Afzal, president, Academic Staff Association, Islamia University, Bahawalpur, while addressing a news conference here on Thursday

Dr Afzal was accompanied by Prof Anwar Nadeem, district coordinator of the joint action committee and Prof Aziz, president, Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association, Bahawalpur division,

The move, he said, was aimed at commercializing the education. “This will shut the doors of cheap education on the poor”

They urged the government to withdraw the decision of establishing boards of governors in educational institutions.

Earlier, university and SE College teachers wore black arm bands and struck the work to express their opposition to official decision to enforce the model university ordinance.

They also demanded reinstatement of PMA president Dr Yasmin Raashid.
