PESHAWAR, Oct 17: The police on Thursday seized a Russian- made hand grenade and a time device from the Madni Market, Shoba Bazaar.

Officials told Dawn that at 11:35 am, owner of the market, Ibaadur Rehman, made a call to police emergency informing them about the explosive device lying in the dustbin at the second flour of the market. The bomb disposal squad rushed to the site and seized the hand grenade, they said, adding that the purpose was only to create panic as the hand grenade could not explode without pulling out the pin.

No arrest had been made, while the Kabuli police station has registered a case and started investigation.

MURDER: An owner of a city hotel was killed and his partner was injured by two persons over a money dispute in the limits of the Gulbahar police station on Thursday.

Owner of the Al-Zar hotel, Anwar Shah told the police that Nadim and Waris came to his house in the Gulbahar Colony late Wednesday night and said that they want to return the money. He asked his nephew Atta Ullah, son of Abdullah, who was also the partner of the hotel, to open the drawing room for them. Mr Shah said that when he went to the drawing room the accused by that time had slit opened the throat of his newphew and tried to over come him too and was injured. On seeing the neighbours coming to the house on the hue and cry of the family they escaped, he added.

The injured was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.

Anwar Shah informed that both the accused belonged to the Punjab province and had opened a butcher shop in Gulbahar Colony No-I. Some time back both the accused had loaned Rs80,000 and were reluctant to return the money, he maintained.

Meanwhile, Nazir, a resident of Hayatabad township, was killed by some unknown persons at the Peshawar-Charsadda road near Chara Pul on Thursday. Police said that the deceased was running a Hundi business in the city.
