LAHORE, April 21: A 70-year-old man and his 45-year-old daughter were run over and killed by Samjhota Express in Harbanspura on Thursday.
Police said the victims were apparently crossing the track when the train was coming from Lahore Railway Station around 8:20am.
The India-bound train’s operation halted for at least half an hour because of the incident.
Locals identified the victims as Nazir Ahmad and Rukhsana Nazir.
The bodies were handed over to the families. Cantonment division SP Sarfraz Ahmad Virk said witnesses, including a woman’s son, told the investigators that the victims did not commit suicide and were accidentally hit by the train.
ACCIDENTS: A young factory worker was killed after being struck by a speeding car in Liaquatabad area on Thursday.
Police said 20-year-old Waseem Sajjad of Chakwal was on his way to his rented place on foot after finishing his work when an unidentified car driver knocked him down around 1am.
The car driver sped away. Police shifted the body to Jinnah Hospital’s morgue and registered a case.
In another incident, a 60-year-old man was killed after he was hit by a horse-cart in Buri area on Thursday.
Police said Wajid was seriously injured when he accidentally hit a part of horse-cart driven by Mushtaq Gujjar.
He later succumbed to his wounds at hospital.
MYSTERIOUS DEATH: A 15-year-old girl was strangled allegedly by her elder brother following a domestic dispute in Shibli Town of Sanda on Thursday.
Quoting Malik Mushtaq, police said his son Tahir strangled his sister Sadia over a trifle.
Tahir, he said, initially gave the murder incident colouring of natural death.
Police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case against the absconder.
PROTEST: Family members of a kidnapped man lodged a protest against Sanda police and blocked Double Sarkan by burning tyres on Thursday. The protesters alleged that the police did not make any serious effort to trace the whereabouts of Muhammad Kashif.
