ISLAMABAD, April 19: The capital administration on Tuesday directed the departments dealing with disaster management, law and order and terrorism to identify shortcomings they are facing in dealing with emergencies.

Besides, the Islamabad Traffic Police were also directed to survey localities and important installations in the city for parking fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles for smooth and quick rescue response.

The directions were issued at a meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed, on ensuring effective security arrangements in the city, especially in and around worship places, shrines and sensitive installations.

The meeting evaluated the shortcomings and difficulties faced by the police, Special Branch, director Disaster Management of the Capital Development Authority, Sui Gas, Iesco, hospitals, and the bomb disposal squad while dealing with emergencies and acts of terrorism.

The departments were given three weeks to identify the shortcomings, suggestions for removing them, and preparing the departmental Standard Operating Systems (SOPs). In the next meeting a mock exercise will also be conducted to evaluate the response of the departments.
