ISLAMABAD: The chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Dr Javed Leghari said Monday that the HEC was still verifying the degrees of Parliamentarians, DawnNews reported.
He further said that degrees which the Election Commission sends to them will also be verified.
While speaking to DawnNews he said the HEC had gained global recognition due to the process of degree verification and the Higher Education could not be devolved because it was unconstitutional.
Later, Senator Raza Rabbani said that stakeholders would be taken on board over the devolution of the Higher Education Commission and a new commission would be formed to replace it.
The 18th amendment implementation commission met today and discussed the framing of a law regarding the role of the HEC. Senator Rabbani was of the opinion that the devolution of the HEC was a small issue which was being blown out of proportion.
The next meeting of the 18th amendment implementation commission will be held on Thursday.
