LAHORE, Nov 13: Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) senior vice-president Ejazul Haq says he is trying to settle differences between party president Mian Muhammad Azhar and the Chaudhris of Gujrat.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said he had suggested that no decisions should be taken without consultation.

He admitted that the party was not united and misunderstandings were deep-rooted. He said the PML(QA) was trying to rope in a number of former PML leaders who were reluctant to join any faction.

About the possibility of unification with the PML, he said efforts had already been made for the purpose but some people were creating obstacles. He said differences could be settled through talks, but the Sharifs were opposed to the unification.

Mr Haq demanded the formation of a national government and a national crisis management organization to tackle the situation the country was passing through at present. The crisis management organization should include politicians and the ulema.

Explaining the need for such an organization, the PML leader said President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s current team had failed to take his message to the masses. As a result, he said, there was a gulf between the people and the government.

Replying to a question, he said the PML(QA) central working committee would constitute committees on Nov 16 to hold talks with other parties for electoral adjustments. He said no party was in a position to contest the elections on its own.

Ejazul Haq expressed serious concern over the destruction in Afghanistan as a result of relentless bombing by the US forces. He said the ammunition rained on Afghanistan was much more than that used in World War I and II. He said no other people could have withstood such attacks.

He said the suggestion that the murder of Mullah Omar and Osama bin Laden would result in bottling the genie of terrorism was a fallacy.

He was also critical of the OIC which, he pointed out, had failed even to condemn the bombing of Afghanistan.

The PML(QA) leader appreciated the views expressed by Gen Musharraf in his speech in the UN General Assembly.
