KARACHI, April 11: A sessions court on Monday sentenced two men to a total of six years in prison in a robbery case.

The court found the two men — Zubair Ahmed and Mohammad Adnan — guilty of robbing Shahid, the complainant, and his family in 2010 within the remit of the Baghdadi police station.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Jangu Khan pronounced his judgment after recording testimonies of witnesses and final arguments.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 each and in case of non-payment the convicts would have to spend an additional four months in prison.

The accused were tried under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 398 (attempt to commit robbery or dacoity when armed with deadly weapons) of the Pakistan Penal Code and the court sentenced them three-year imprisonment in each offence. However, the sentences would run concurrently.

According to the prosecution, the accused broke into the house of the complainant, held him and family members at gunpoint and deprived them of cash, cellphone and other valuables. They also tried to rob the house, but police reached the scene and arrested them.

A case (FIR 126/10) was registered under Section 392, 398 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The court extended the benefit of Section 382 (period of detention to be considered while awarding sentence of imprisonment) of the criminal procedure code to the convicts and remanded them back to prison to serve out the remainder of their sentence. Bomb hoax at city courts Panic gripped in and around the city courts and legal proceedings were also partly disturbed due to a bomb hoax on Monday.

Police said that an unknown caller informed police helpline '15' about a bomb in the city courts around 2pm.

The bomb disposal squad reached the scene while police and the Rangers cordoned off the area. The courts were evacuated and finally the BDS cleared the premises.
