KARACHI: Garbage heaps in Lyari

Published October 15, 2002

KARACHI, Oct 14: The Lyari Town administration has failed to make a proper arrangement for the disposal of garbage as the present system is not working satisfactorily.

Reports of insanitary conditions have been received from different parts of the town which show that the present arrangement is not effective.

The residents cite the negligence of civic officials as one of the factors for the failure of system while the town officials say shortage of manpower and availability of vehicles are the two factors, hindering the garbage disposal work.

A survey of several localities shows that sanitary conditions show a dismal picture as heaps of garbage are lying unattended in several parts of the town for the last few days, creating unhygienic conditions.

The residents of affected areas have complained that sanitary workers are not attending their duties for the last two weeks, as a result heaps of garbage were littered in most of the streets and roadside where filthy conditions posed health hazards, making life miserable for the common man.

WATER: Meanwhile, water shortage problem has been persisting in some parts of the town. The hard hit areas are Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road near Juna Masjid, Ali Mohammad Mohallla, Shah Beg Lane and parts of Baghdadi, Nawabad and Khadda Memon Society.
