KARACHI, Oct 13: Twenty-four outfits battle for top honours in the 15th President PFF Cup football championship which kicks off from Monday at People’s Sports Complex.

Apart from the defending champions Pakistan Army, almost all the top sides of the country will be in fray.

Interestingly, Agha Gas Quetta, a gas company belonging to Pakistan Football Federation secretary, Agha Liaquat Ali, will also be in contention for the title.

Among other teams taking part are: Crescent Textile Mills Faisalabad (CTMF), Pakistan Machine Tool Factory (PMTF), PIA, Railways, PWD, HBL, PAF, Wapda, Pakistan Police, Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Afghan Agency Chaman (AAC), Pakistan Navy, PTCL, SSGC, ABL, KESC, KWSB, KRL, NBP.

However, according to the programme released by the organizers, the defunct Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has been shown as one of the participants.

When pointed out, the chairman of the competition committee, Ghulam Abbas Baloch, admitted the blunder and stated the name of the team would be mentioned as City District Government Karachi (CDGK) in the schedule.

“Yes the name of the KMC side should be CDGK. We will change the name of the side from KMC to CDGK,” Abbas said.

Likewise, Quetta Municipal Corporation (QMC) has been included as contestant, although it has been renamed as City District Government Quetta (CDGQ) after the present government’s devolution plan.

KESC will meet KWSB in the opening match which starts at 4.00pm.
