KARACHI, Oct 13: Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, the President of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, has urged President Pervez Musharraf to take notice of the alleged rigging and irregularities in the elections in Karachi, and demanded stern action against officials involved in “engineering the election results.”

According to a press release on Sunday, he made this demand when the president phoned him to congratulate on the MMA’s success in the general elections.

He thanked the president and apprised him of alleged irregularities, and said “results were changed around 3pm in various constituencies in Karachi, despite the fact that the MMA candidates were leading in NA-243, 244, 247, 248, 249, 251, 254, 255 and 256.”

“Polling stations were captured by criminal elements, who expelled the MMA’s polling agents and manipulated the results,” he said.

The president assured him of complete and thorough investigations into the allegations of rigging and irregularities in the elections. — PPI
