Six killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Oct 12: An Indian guard was killed and three other people injured, including a candidate defeated in the recent elections, in an attack in occupied Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

Four Mujahideen and an Indian army soldier were also killed in separate encounters, police said.

Police said unidentified men hurled a handgrenade at the house of the defeated candidate, Abdul Rashid Ganai, injuring Ganai and his three guards, at Kangan, 40km from Srinagar.

One of the injured guards died in hospital.

Ganai had contested the elections on behalf of the pro-India Awami League, headed by militant commander Mohammed Yusuf, alias Kuka Parrey.

Indian troops claimed killing three Mujahideen in two separate encounters in Kupwara district on Friday night, police said.

Another militant was shot dead in Baramulla district.

An Indian army soldier was killed and another injured in an ambush in Doda district, police said.

Seven civilians were injured in a bomb blast and two shooting incidents in Doda and Poonch districts, they added.—AFP
