Injured constable dies MARDAN, March 19: A constable, who was injured critically during a police encounter with suspected militants on Monday, died in Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar on Saturday.
Sources said constable Tahir Khan and SHO of Toru police station Fazal Raziq alias Mula Khan were referred to LRH from Mardan DHQ.
They said the injured were being provided extra care and treatment but the constable Tahir Khan, a resident of Guli Bagh area, died on Saturday while Fazal Raziq was still unconscious.

Bail denied KOHAT, March 19: The additional and district sessions judge cancelled the bail before arrest of a proclaimed offender in the murder case of the father of local journalist on Saturday.
The additional judge after hearing the arguments of the counsels from both sides rejected the bail before arrest application of PO Batkh Jamal in the murder case of late Syed Amjid Gilani, father of Syed Basit Gilani who was the reporter of News One Channel.
He was remanded to Jarma police custody for interrogation. —Correspondent
PTI activists arrested PESHAWAR, March 19: University Campus police arrested two activists of the PTI youth wing for holding a meeting on Saturday.
A police source said arrested people include, PTI youth wing, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, president Murad Ali and Suhail Khan, who were busy discussing party matters in a university canteen.
He said holding of meetings in the campus was in violation of the Section 144 and they would be charged under Section 188 of the PPC.
He said the students’ demonstrations and meetings had been banned inside the campus.
A PTI spokesman told Dawn that Murad Ali had recently completed his studies and his meeting with colleagues was not against the rules, saying, he was arrested while taking lunch at the STC canteen.
Meanwhile, the activist of Insaf Students Federation also held protest demonstration at Sher Shah Suri Road and condemned the police for arresting the former students. —Bureau Report
Payment of salary SWABI, March 19: The management of the Hattar Textile Mills will soon pay salary of the month of January to 700 workers who are protesting non-payment of salaries, sources said here on Saturday.
The workers staged a sit-in in front of the mills and didn’t allow truckloads to leave or enter the premises.
A leader of the workers told this correspondent
by phone that they were told that the owner of the mills had gone abroad that they would get salaries on his return.
However, the workers demanded payment of salaries without any delay because they were suffering financially.
After which the management agreed to pay Rs4,400,000 to the workers immediately. While the salary for month of February would be paid later. —Correspondent
Appointment of EDOs MANSEHRA, March 19: Provincial Minster for Food Shujah Salim Khan has said the officers from the district management group (DMG) are being inducted as the executive district officers in the education department to end absenteeism and address other flaws.
“The DMG officers are being appointed in the education department to address the discrepancies and mismanagement which has marred performance of the government schools,” said Mr Khan while speaking at a function on Saturday.
Mr Salim said owing to the absenteeism by the teachers and bad results in the board examination the parents were compelled to admit their children in private schools.
“Government wants to enhance the educational standard in the public schools and teachers should extend help in this regard,” said the minister.
Mr Khan also lauded the role of private educational institutions in enhancing literacy rate. —Correspondent
Syndicate elections PESHAWAR, March 19: Asad Ali Khan, lecturer Department of Agronomy, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agricultural University Peshawar, was elected member of Syndicate of the varsity during polls held here on Saturday.
