SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 10: A union council Naib Nazim sustained a bullet injury and a presiding officer was kidnapped on Thursday.

Naib Nazim Ghulam Mustafa sustained injury when some PPP activists allegedly opened fire on him in PP-168, Feroze Wattoowan, some 28 kilometres away from here. He was removed to hospital where he is stated to be stable.

Presiding officer Yousaf was kidnapped from PP-168 allegedly by PML-QA candidate Abid Chattha’s supporters in the evening. His whereabouts could not be known till filing of this report at around 8pm.

Skirmishes were reported from various constituencies in the district. However, no casualty was reported from anywhere.

PPP activists in NA-136 allegedly attacked a PML-QA polling camp injuring a rival activist. However, the situation normalized as soon as Bheki police reached the spot.

In NA-135, Sangla Hill, ballot boxes were taken away by the PML-QA activists as a result of which polling remained suspended for more than one-and-a-half-hour.

In Jodhpur village (NA-136 and PP-168), some PML-QA workers were caught red-handed stamping ballot papers outside a polling station. The matter was brought into the notice of district returning officer.

A PML-QA candidate reportedly paid Rs200 to Rs300 in Jandiala Road polling station (PP-167) to cast vote in his favour.

TURNOUT: There was no enthusiasm among voters throughout the district as turnout remained around 20 per cent in the rural as well as urban areas.

In some city areas, a little rush of voters was seen from 10am to 12:30pm. After that, polling stations gave a deserted look.

In rural areas, however, the situation was reverse where voters turned up to polling stations in the afternoon — after around 2pm.
