Global stocks fall

Published November 13, 2001

NEW YORK, Nov 12: Global stocks and the US dollar fell on Monday as investors took fright and fled for the safe haven of bonds, gold and the Swiss franc after a passenger plane crashed into a residential area in New York City.

The Dow Jones industrial average was off 1.6 per cent at 9,454 and the Nasdaq composite weakened nearly 1pc at 1,811 points. In Europe, the FTSE Eurotop 300 index — off more than 3pc after the crash — was down 1.8.

The Karachi Stock Exchange failed to attract investors, shedding 13.64 points to around 1,369.03.
