QUETTA, March 5: The Pakhtun Balochistan Province Movement has called upon lawmakers to amend the Constitution so that new provinces could be created in the country.

Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Saturday, a former federal minister and chairman of the PBPM, Mir Haji Tareen, called for holding a referendum in Pakhtun-dominated districts of Balochistan to determine aspirations of the people about a new administrative unit. He said the Pakhtun of Balochistan should be given three options in the referendum --- either to remain in the present two-ethnic province or to create a separate province or to merge with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Haji Tareen claimed that it was the federation's responsibility to ascertain the aspiration of Pakhtuns in the light of the 1940 resolution to resolve the problem on a permanent basis.
