Stevenson stuns Capriati

FILDERSTADT (Germany), Oct 9: Top seed Jennifer Capriati was stunned 7-6 4-6 6-4 by qualifier Alexandra Stevenson in the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Wednesday.

It was Stevenson’s second win over Capriati this year, following an earlier victory in Sydney in January.

Playing for the first time since losing to Amelie Mauresmo in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open, world number three Capriati failed to come to terms with her fellow American’s strong forehand and backhand.

Although Stevenson hit 13 double-faults, she also hit eight aces and was solid enough both from the baseline and when working her way to the net to have Capriati struggling.
