PESHAWAR, March 1: Two persons, including a member of Imamia Jirga, were killed in separate incidents here on Tuesday while police claimed to have arrested two kidnappers and recovered as many abducted people.

An official of Shah Qabul police station said that Mohammad Akbar, an activist of Imamia Jirga, was shot dead by unidentified armed persons at Jahangir Pura Road in broad daylight.

Saleem Akbar, the son of the deceased, told police that his father left his residence and was on way to his workplace when armed men attacked him.

“My father was a businessman and had no enmity with anyone,” he said. However, he added that one year ago an unidentified person threatened his father by telephone. “We basically belong to Parachinar and have shifted to Peshawar on permanent basis,” he said.

In another incident, Kamran Khan was killed in the agriculture fields at Nasirpur in the limits of Chamkani police station. His brother Sheraz told police that Kamran was going home when some unidentified gunmen attacked him.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have recovered two persons, who had been kidnapped from different areas of the provincial metropolis for ransom.

Police said that Khalid Khan, a businessman kidnapped from Kohat Road on Jan 1, was recovered from a tribal region.

SP Imtiaz Shah told a press conference that a five-member gang of kidnappers had abducted the businessman and demanded a ransom of Rs10 million for his release.

He said that the victim had been shifted to tribal area. “Police after thorough investigation arrested two accused identified as Sajjad Khan and Wajidur Rehman. The arrested kidnappers disclosed the names of their other accomplices,” he added. However, the rest of the accused identified as Kiramat Khan, Humayun and Rehmat could not be arrested. Mr Shah said that efforts were being made to arrest them at the earliest.

Another kidnapped person Riaz was set free by abductors in Hayatabad. Riaz had been kidnapped from Bhudni Charsadda Road on Jan 29 when he was going to his shop in Sarafa Bazaar. A police official of Faqirabad police station said kidnappers set him free as police were conducting raids on their dens.— Bureau Report
