ISLAMABAD, Oct 8: The government, dismissing the conclusion of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan that the polls would be rigged, has termed it “totally unfounded, slanderous, rubbish and an arm-chair conclusion”.

“It really manifests their prejudiced mindset,” the official spokesman said.

He said this when his attention was drawn to the report released by the HRCP earlier Tuesday on alleged polls rigging.

The advisable course for the HRCP, he said, could have been that it should have first observed the election process, compiled its report based on the observations and announced it thereafter, on the set pattern being followed by international observers.

Expressing dismay over the unsubstantiated claim, the spokesman asked as to what specific scientific mechanism and countrywide feedback system was adopted and relied upon by the HRCP that it was able to draw conclusion three days ahead of the event.

He said: “Unfortunately, the HRCP has taken upon itself a political role and, hence, it is not able to give any objective view on matters of vital national interest.”—APP
