PESHAWAR, Feb 17: The Pakistan Mazdoor Kisan Party (PMKP) has expressed grave concern over the forced eviction of peasants from agricultural farms in different localities of Charsadda district and demanded of the government to honour a court verdict, given in favour of the growers.
“An organised group of landlords has barred peasants in Nawa Kallay area of Charssada from working in the agricultural fields,” PMKP leader Shamaz Khan told a press conference here on Thursday.
He termed the action violation of a verdict of the Supreme Court. He said that Supreme Court had decided a case in favour of peasants, directing the landlords to stop evicting them.
But the government did not implement the court verdict despite lapse of one year, he said. He added that landlords were harassing the poor families of growers on different pretexts to force them to leave their land.
The PMKP leader demanded of the government and local administration to honour the court verdict to end growing unrest among poor segment of the society. “The peasants are earning livelihood for their families and respect the agreements, inked by them with the landlords, but they are being evicted for unknown reasons,” he said.
He said that the government had completely failed to deliver. The growing unemployment, lawlessness, and terrorism were the ample proof of the government failure, he maintained.
“We had paid much due to wrong policies of the government,” Mr Khan said and asked the government to end alliance with the USA. The government needed to review its foreign policy and shun the agenda of US appeasement, he said.
He said that terrorism and extremism could be tackled through provision of equal opportunities of employment, education and health to all citizens. — Bureau Report
