SWABI, Feb 15: A man was killed and his brother and father were injured by their rivals over an old enmity here on Tuesday, police said.

Officials of Zaida police station said two families belonging to the Mohmand Agency had an old rivalry, which the elders from both sides tried to resolve but to no avail.

Said Bacha, his brother Haji Rehman and their father were shot at and injured by their rivals when they were going to attend a jirga to resolve the enmity. Later, Said Bacha died.

Haji Rehman lodged a case with the Zaida police station against Khanan Khan, Imam Shah and Asraeel Shah.

CATCHES FIRE: Fire in an LPG shop at Bamkhel area on Tuesday triggered a series of cylinder blasts. Traders said they saw the shop owner, Mohammad Nazir Khan, rushing out of the shop after a blast and then the shop catching fire, resulting in several blasts.

The people rushed to the shop soon after the fire and prevented it from spreading to more shops. They extinguished the fire after hectic efforts. The shop owner said Rs150,000 lying in the shop were reduced to ashes.

ENMITY SOLVED: An old enmity between the family of Swabi Qaumi Mahaz chairman Babar Saleem and late Mohammad Ishfaq Khan was settled by a jirga of the Maneri Bala on Tuesday.

More than a year back, Mohammad Ishfaq, principal of Al-Faisal Public School, was shot dead when he was on way to the institute. His family alleged that Babar Saleem, his brother-in-law Khalid Khan and former nazim of the Maneri union council were involved in his murder.

However, Mr Saleem denied being involved in the murder, declaring that at the time of the incident he was in a party meeting. They were arrested by police and after trials were set free by a local court about two months back.

After his release, Mr Saleem formed a jirga which continued negotiations with both families for several weeks and finally succeeded in resolving the dispute.
