BUSAN, Oct 6: Pakistan’s Meherullah outpointed Uranchimeg Munkherdene of Mongolia to reach featherweight quarterfinals in the Asian Games boxing tournament Sunday.
Meherullah faces Chinese Taipei’s Chung Chun An in the last eight.
Meanwhile, Pakistan were ousted from the volleyball competition after defending champions China beat them 3-1 in the preliminary round.
China opened the game, winning the first set 25-16 and then went on to clinch the second with the same score.
Pakistan challenged the might rivals by snatching the third set 17-25, but were sent packing by China who won the fourth 25-21.
From China, winners Xiang Zhang (17), Jiajie (15), Jin Wang (11), Zhi Yung (7) and Ye Wang (6) were the notable players, while Rasal Bakhat (19), Mohammad Tufail (10), Mohammad Jamil (8), Sajid Nawaz (6), and Ihsanullah Khan (6) played well for Pakistan.
