GHALANAI/ CHARSADDA, Feb 11: A levies trooper and a suspected militant were killed in exchange of fire at a checkpost in Prang Ghar while a tribal Malak and three volunteers wounded in a roadside explosion in two separate attacks in Mohmand tribal region on Friday.

APA Rasul Khan told Dawn that the levies personnel at Dabo Dheri checkpost stopped a suspected car for checking. One of the three car riders started fleeing while the other two hurled grenades on the levies men. A levies man, Itbar Gul, of Prang Ghar was killed in the clash.

The levies personnel chased the fleeing men and opened fire. As a result, some explosive fastened with the body of one of them went off and he died on the spot. The other two, including a woman, were arrested.

The second incident took place in tehsil Ambar where Malak Sab Khan, head of Ambar peace committee, and three volunteers sustained injuries when their vehicle hit a landmine near Ghaljo Darra as they were returning after attending a jirga of the peace committee.

Meanwhile, the security forces and political administration during search operation destroyed houses of five militants in Ghaljo Dara and Lowi Shah areas.

In Charsadda, 23 suspected people including six alleged militants were arrested and a huge cache of arms was seized in a pre-dawn crackdown against miscreants in different areas of the district on Friday.

The police after growing incidents of violence in Charsadda district tightened security and sealed all the entry and exit points.

On a tip-off, a police party led by DSP Tangi conducted the raid and arrested six militants wanted to police in Charsadda and Omarzai bombings.

The police also arrested 17 other people of the area for alleged links with the arrested militants.

They were shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.

A huge quantity of arms was also recovered from their possession.
