KARACHI, Feb 11: A young man was shot dead and his friend wounded in a firing incident in Orangi Town on Friday, police said.

They said 30-year-old Liaquat Ali and his friend Sher Alam came under an attack when armed men on a motorbike fired at them in Muslimabad No. 3 near Qasba Colony within the remit of the Pirabad police station.

“Liaquat was hit in the head and he died on the spot,” said Pirabad SHO Inspector Rana Nasarullah.

“Sher Alam suffered a single bullet wound in the abdomen and was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. The attackers, however, escaped from the scene.”

He said deceased Liaquat was previously associated with a political party, which had later expelled him due to his alleged involvement in criminal activities.

He was arrested several times on different charges and was recently released from the central prison on bail in a money extortion case, he added.
