Pakistan drawn to face New Zealand

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5: Pakistan have been drawn to play New Zealand in the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group I, a tie to be played next February at home.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) said Saturday that a decision on the surface would be made in due course. “New Zealand are good on grass and hard courts, so I think clay would suit us,” said the spokesman.

Being the hosts, Pakistan have the right to choose the surface for the tie that is to be contested between Feb 8 and 10.

Pakistan earned promotion to Group I by beating China 3-2 in Peshawar last month.

Group I has such nations as Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Uzbekistan. India are also bracketed in this group.
