KARACHI, Jan 26: A young woman was strangled to death allegedly by her husband in Azizabad area on Wednesday, police said.

They said 37-year-old Rehana was found dead in a bedroom of her block 2 residence in Federal B Area in suspicious circumstances.

“The police were informed by the family of the woman and some neighbours about the incident,” said Anzaar Alam, SHO Azizabad police station. “When the police questioned the victim's in-laws they came up with contradictory claims. Similarly, initial findings of the medico-legal examination of the body at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital established strangulation as cause death.”

He said the body was handed over to the family for burial and police examined the house as well as questioned the in-laws that raised doubts about the woman's husband.

“Surprisingly before the police moved for his arrest, he disappeared without even attending the funeral of the victim. But we have traced him and very close to his arrest,” said the SHO Azizabad police station adding that the couple was married for the last 17 years and had no child.

A man in his late 40s was found shot dead inside his residence in Shershah area. The area police said the victim, identified as Ghulam Shabbir, hailed from Dera Ghazi Khan and worked in an industrial godown as watchman for the last several years.
