SAHIWAL, Oct 3: Three sub-divisional officers (SDOs), 24 meter readers/inspectors and clerks of Mepco’s Arifwala division were suspended from service on Thursday.

Wapda’s Sahiwal circle superintending engineer took the action on the basis of an inquiry report which held the 27 officials responsible for electricity theft and overbilling consumers.

The inquiry was ordered by Wapda chairman on the complaints of electricity consumers of Arifwala that the SDOs and other staff were involved in electricity theft and overbilled them.

Those suspended from service are city, rural and sub-division I SDOs Jawad Manzoor, Zulfiqar Haidar, and Niamat Ali Qureshi, respectively.

The meter readers/inspectors and clerks include Muhammad Afzal, Haq Nawaz, Allah Rakha, Muhammad Ashraf, Rashid Ahmad, Nazir Ahmad, Safdar Ali, Mumtaz Ahmad, Liaquat Ali, Abdul Latif, Maqbool Hussain, Naseer Ahmad, Altaf Husain, Shabbir Ahmad, Rafiq Ahmad, Manzoor Ahmad, Muhammad Sharif, Muhammad Hayat, Mushtaq, Muhammad Shafiq, Nazir Ahmad, Nizam Din, Ali Akhtar and Shahadat.

They have been directed to report to the Sahiwal circle SE.
