Retailers registration

Published October 4, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Oct 3: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has sought help from all trade associations, chambers of commerce and industries in registering all retailers who are required to pay sales tax under the law.

The CBR official spokesman and member direct taxes, Vakil Ahmed Khan in a statement said that as a result of data collected through the survey in the previous years, notices were issued to a large number of retailers for registration under the sales tax act.

Presently, 30,685 retailers were enrolled/registered under the sale tax act 1990 all over Pakistan under the turnover scheme and the regular GST scheme. They have paid sales tax to the tune of Rs273m during the last financial year, he said.

The CBR has asked all the collectorates of sales tax and central excise to audit the records of selected retailers in order to improve compliance by the already registered persons. The data about the retailers available with the income tax department is also being utilized to increase the number of registered retailers, he said.
