LAHORE, Jan 18: Police rescued on Tuesday a woman allegedly tied with ropes and confined in her house by her husband in 25-A/10-R in precincts of Katchakhu police, Khanewal.

Police said Allah Ditta had married Samina Bibi eight years ago.

Samina’s uncle Qaiser Abbas, of Shorkot, says when he visited her niece last month, he saw Allah Ditta beating her despite she was expecting a baby.

“Samina gave birth to two daughters and was expecting another baby. Her husband would quarrel with her as he wanted to contract a second marriage,” Qaisar told Dawn. He said he took Samina with her to his home in Shorkot where she gave birth to the third daughter.

Qaiser said a few days ago when Samina returned to her home in Katchakhu, her husband tied her with ropes and confined her in a room. Some neighbours informed Qaiser about Samina’s ordeal.

Qaiser says he reported the matter to police but the officials pressured him to settle the dispute on their own. He said when police failed to help his niece out, he approached TV reporters in Khanewal. When the channels aired the story on Tuesday, police rescued Samina and registered a case under sections 506 and 342 of Pakistan Penal Code. — Staff Reporter
