ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: Lawmakers belonging to Jamaat-i-Islami have expressed concern over growing incidents of targeted killing in Karachi and submitted an adjournment motion with the Senate secretariat seeking debate on the issue.

In the adjournment motion, Senators Professor Khursheed Ahmed, Prof Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and Afia Zia condemned the killings – including that of Wali Khan Babar, a journalist – in Karachi and criticised a reported government plan to raise railway fares by up to 30 per cent.

Senator Khursheed, deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, said that provincial and federal governments were ‘directly responsible’ for the latest wave of killings in Karachi because instead of punishing the culprits they were engaged in wheeling-dealing.
